Bird Control and Information
Northwest Nuisance Wildlife Control traps, removes, manages and
controls most animal species, including birds.

Pileated Woodpecker |
Our bird control services
include the removal and
control of problem birds from urban, rural and suburban
areas. Here
at NNWC, we get hundreds of calls every year for bird
control. There are many Washington birds that cause problems for
our customers.
Common bird problems consist of pigeons and
seagulls roosting and nesting on buildings, crows dive bombing people
and crows, starlings, robins, house sparrows and black birds
eating crops and damaging fruit orchards.
Woodpeckers
and flickers drill holes into buildings looking for insects or while
creating a cavity to nest in. Also, flickers commonly "tap" or drum on
metal objects on houses to make their presence known to mates. This can
be very annoying, especially at 6AM.
Did
you know that a flock of 300 starlings will eat one ton of grain per
month on dairy farms? In blueberry orchards, some farmers say that they
will loose up to 28% of their crop to birds such
as starlings. Magpies eat the eyes out of newborn
calves, costing the farmer that calf. Geese will eat acres of
newly planted corn that is 3 to 6 inches high. Seagulls will eat
hundreds of finger length salmon at fish hatcheries and thousands
more once the fish are released into our rivers and streams.
Ducks
and geese commonly nest next to buildings and can act very aggressively
toward humans. Geese are also well known for biting
children. Geese leave 3 pound of their droppings behind every day,
contaminating drinking and swimming water.
Birds
are carriers for many diseases, such as; histoplasmosis,
cryptococcosis, toxoplasmosis, pigeon ornithosis, encephalitis, and
salmonellosis. These diseases can be transferred to
humans.
Most birds are protected under the Federal
Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1973. Even crows and seagulls
are protected under this law, but they can be controlled when
causing damage. Birds such as house sparrows, starlings and the
city pigeon are not protected.
Our bird removal,
management and control programs are mostly of the non-lethal variety
and often involve integrated management plans. We use scare-a-way
products, trapping, nest removal, netting and other exclusionary
methods to control your problem birds. If we can be of any assistance,
please feel free to contact us.
