Our rabbit control services
include the removal and
control of problem rabbits from urban, rural and suburban areas. Here
at NNWC, we perform a significant amount of rabbit control every
year. We control rabbits in backyard gardens, forest areas, timber
land, nurseries and wherever rabbits have become a problem. Our
rabbit control programs are mostly non-lethal, consisting of live
trapping, fencing, habitat modifications and
more. Washington
has both wild and domestic rabbits, but we are going to focus mostly
on the wild cottontail rabbit. Rabbits There
are 13 species of cottontail rabbits, with nine of them found in the
United States. The cottontail is 15 to 20 inches long and weighs 2 to 4
pounds. Our Washington cottontails are gray or brownish in color,
with white on
their belly side. Our rabbits molt twice a year and stay the same
color. Cottontails can have up to 6 litters per year, but
typically have 2 to 3 litters. The
life span of cottontails is only 12 to 15 months. Gestation
period is 28 to 29 days and litter sizes of up to nine, averaging 5 young is common. Cottontail rabbits are born hairless and
blind. They will open their eyes in 8 days and leave the nest
in 3 weeks. Rabbits do considerable
damage to vegetable and flower gardens, trees and
shrubs. Rabbits will devour a wide variety of flowers, with their
favorite being tulips. In vegetable gardens they will eat peas,
beans, beets, corn, squash, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and potatoes,
just to name a few. Cottontail rabbits also
damage trees and shrubs, eating or damaging apple trees, raspberries,
blackberry bushes, woody plants, cherry, plum, and even nut trees. The
list is long! In urban and
metropolitan areas, people commonly drop off domestic rabbits at
apartment and condo complexes. Rabbits will eat just about every
plant in the area. Our Rabbit Control Programs are mostly non-lethal. For professional rabbit trapping, removal and control, call the experts at Northwest Nuisance
