Our skunk control services
include the removal and
control of problem skunks from urban, rural and suburban
areas. It's
the smell everybody hates! Yes, we do skunks! Here at NNWC we trap
and remove these smelly little critters on a regular basis. Our
skunk removal and control programs consist of cage trapping,
habitat modification, exclusion work to keep them out, fencing and
more. Just call our office for more information on skunk control.
Washington Skunks In Washington State we have both the striped and the spotted skunk. Skunks are in the weasel family.
The
striped skunk is jet black with prominent white lateral stripes down
its back. The striped skunk is the size of medium size house
cat. It measures up to 30 inches and weighs in at an average of 7
pounds.
The spotted skunk is much smaller both in
length and weight. It will measure in length of up to 20 inches
and weigh about 2 pounds, with the average less in length and
weight. The spotted skunk has more of a weasel-like body,
being long and slender. It has white spots to broken white stripes
with a dense black coat. Unlike striped skunks, spotted skunks are
excellent climbers.
Both skunk species are opportunistic when
it comes to food sources, although the spotted skunk is more prone to
eating animal materials.
Adult skunks breed in late
February. The gestation period is 63 days and average litter size
is 4 to 6 young, but they may have up to 15. The young stay with
the female until fall and both sexes mature by the following
spring.
The life span of a skunk is about 10 years with
an average of 3 years. Both skunks are great diggers and will dig
under homes, sheds and garages for a place to live. They are well
known for digging up lawns of homes, parks and golf courses while
searching for grubs.
Our Skunk Control Programs are non-lethal.
